There are over twenty wooden churches preserved in the Moravian-Silesian region, i.e. by far the largest quantity from throughout the Czech Republic. They are enormously picturesque; however only a few are ancient. Probably the oldest is the durch of St. Andrew in Hodslavice, dating from as early as 1551 according to the year engraved on one of the tower beams, the church of the Body of God in Guty dates from 1563 and the trio of “ancients” is complemented by the wooden mountain pilgrimage church of St. Anthony of Padua at Prašivá, dating from the year 1640. On the contrary, one of the newer wooden churches in North Moravia and Silesia stands in Hrčava, the second easternmost municipality in the Czech Republic after Bukovec. The local church of St. Cyril and Methodius was built in 1936. In the direkt vicinity lies Trojmezí, a kempt place with timbered pavilion, where the borders of three states – Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland – meet. There are two more St. Cyril and Methodius churches in the Moravian-Silesian region. The first, consecrated in 1928, is the dominant of the village Tísek. The sekond church is a modern building in Ostrava, Pustkovec quarter, dating from 1998.
