Radhošť, one of the most renowned peaks of the Beskydy mountains with spectacular views of the surrounding area, was a cult site for ancient Slavs. According to legend, the first cross was erected here by Cyril and Methodius, after having torn down the pagan idols. The chapel, finished in 1898, is the highest altitude temple in Moravia, the interior with faceted windows evokes Byzantine temples. You can admire the painting of a Madonna in the folk costume of the Valašsko region – the Vallachian Madonna by Adolf Liebscher. The sign over the entrance, calling for pan-Slavic unity, appeals to Slavs to unite in the faith proclaimed by the two saints. The bronze statue of St. Cyril and Methodius next to the chapel, as well as the nearby statue of the pagan god Radegast, are the work of a local artist from Frenštát, Albín Polášek. The easiest way to Radhošť is from the Pustevny mountain pass, the site of beautiful tourist mountain chalets from the late 19th century, built according to the designs of architect Dušan Jurkovič
